Youth Corps Volunteer Program
The Youth Corps Program is for young adults ages 14-18 that are interested in completing their school required community service hours at the Capital Area Humane Society. Teens participating in the Youth Corps Program will work as a group on tasks and activities as assigned by CAHS staff.
Teens interested in the Youth Corps Program need to complete an application in order to be considered. CAHS staff reserves the right to use discretion and choose those young adults who exhibit maturity, interest in the program and dedication to the animals to participate in the program. Please note that the Youth Corps Program has limited enrollment (20 teens per term) and there is the possibility that not all teens that apply will be accepted.
One Youth Corps term lasts the entire year. The group will meet once a month from 4:30-6:30pm here at the shelter (please refer to the term schedule for session dates). Attendance at every meeting is not required, however if a teen missed a meeting, they will not recieve credit for those hours missed. At the end of each term, every participant will receive a letter verifying their service (and number of hours) completed.
The Youth Corps Program is a working-volunteer program; all teens participating will be asked to pay a membership fee of $25 per term. This fee includes a pizza party at the end of the term. Volunteer t-shirts can be purchased for $10 each. Members of the program are asked to wear their t-shirt and nametag when attending sessions.
Applications for the Youth Corps Program are available at the CAHS and will soon be available online. Please contact Rebecca Yonker at (517) 626-6821, ext. 25 or ryonker@cahs-lansing.org for more information.
